I started using WPengine mid last year – I wanted something a bit higher end for my new sites. I still haven’t witched all my sites to WPengine yet because I’m a bit lazy sometimes. However, I have two of my most important websites now hosted with WPengine for a reason. WPengine is extremely powerful for hosting wordpress websites on. With that being said let me talk about my experience and some of the negatives in there as well.
The Bad Experiences First
The first few months with WPengine was pretty good, I had no real problems with them and everything was running lightning fast. However, they experienced a DDOS attack on their data provider and it caused my website and many others websites to be down for DAYS. It was pretty crazy to have a top tier hosting service be down for that long. With that being said, almost every host I have been with has had down time – but never as long as the event I experienced with WPengine. With that being said, WPengine has assured their customers they have taken precautions to prevent this sort of down time from happening again.
The Good Experiences
Overall WPengine is the best hosting service that I have used. The service works amazing with wordpress – since it’s a wordpress only hosting service. WPengine is extremely fast and offers numerous hosting level packages. Their customer service is great – even during the downtown they were exceptionally responsive to their customers.
Easy Setup: WPEngine is extremely easy to use and also easy to setup. Although the setup process is different than standard hosting (because there is no Cpanel with WPEngine) it’s overall much easier. You can easily transfer domains and add redirects using the WPEngine dashboard. Installing WordPress is a few click process that even the least computer savvy could figure out. In addition to that, WPEngine has a great customer support team that is available within minutes via their online chat system.
Analytics: WPengine offers dashboard analytics for all of your website and installs. Their analytics are very accurate and updated regularly. Here is a screenshot of what the traffic and bandwidth stats within WPEngines user panel.
Security: WPEngine is one of the most secure hosting services you can use for your WordPress website. WPengine has an internal black-list of malware plugins so you don’t accidentally install malicious software that will give hackers a way into your website. WPEngine also has an internal backup system and additional prompts you to backup anytime you install a plugin that may cause problems with your website. Here is a screenshot of the backup prompt during plugin installation.
Speed: Google puts more weight on website loading time now than they ever have before. If your website is not loading fast you may face lower website rankings and lost revenue from increasingly impatient customers. WPengine is blazing fast compared to most hosting services with the additional option of using a CDN (content delivery network) added-on. For most of my sites I use their CDN add-on which is another $20 or so dollars per month but worth every penny. Most hosting services do not have this option built in that you can easily add with one click.
WPengine is hands-down the best hosting for a WordPress built website (5 out of 5 stars easily). It’s fast, secure, reliable and easy to use. You can check out their official website by clicking the button below.
